Blind Spot Mirrors for Driving Instructors and Drivers

What are blind spot mirrors?

What is your blind spot?

The Blind spots are the areas around a vehicle that the driver can’t see by looking through windows or in conventional mirrors. The majority of the accidents happened when overtaking, changing lanes or turning in a junction, approximately 840,000 blind spot-related accidents occur every year.

Some modern vehicles now offer blind-spot detection as a safety feature, typically with a blind spot detection system and/or an audible alert system (these are sometimes called lane departure warning systems too), this can be a  helpful tool as well.

This blind-spot warning system should alert you any time your car is moving too close to another object.

Even with this system, we still advise doing a quick glance over the shoulder after checking the blind spot monitor just to be thorough. It’s mind-blowing how quickly a car can come up beside you and be out of the driver visibility range, so doing a shoulder check is always your safest option.

Blind Spot Mirrors

Blindspot mirrors are a very affordable, cost-efficient way to improve driver safety by allowing you to see what’s in your blind spot without turning your head. These small mirrors are especially helpful when driving in urban environments, dual or single carriageway and motorway, where you could accidentally miss seeing vehicles in your blind spot.

The most common type of blind spot mirrors is a stick-on type that you attach to your existing side mirrors, giving you a broader view of the side and rear of your car. While some vehicles do have blind spot mirrors integrated with their factory side mirrors, most vehicles do not. Fortunately, you can get yourself a pair for a very cheap price, improving your safety and the safety of those around you.

Do Blind Spot Mirrors work?

If the blind spot mirrors are fitted correctly and you’ve chosen the correct size for your vehicle, it will help you maintain road safety and enhances the visibility of side mirrors by allowing you to see the blind spots especially when switching lanes, or overtaking vehicles.

Also, It helps when it comes to  Parallel parking or bay parking, by preventing you from bumping a curb or an obstacle.
